Kaasboerderij van Schie is the farm of Harry and Margriet van Schie. They live and work with their family in this monumental longhouse on the Noordijzseweg in Polsbroek. They have divided the roles well. Harry takes care of the 80 dairy cows and Margriet makes the cheese.

History

In 1992 Harry and Margriet van Schie took over the farm from Harry’s parents. The long-gabled farmhouse on Noordzijdseweg in Polsbroek dates back to 1650 and was built on monastic bricks. People used to live and work in the same building; the cows reached the kitchen door. Over the years, much has changed, but cheese is still made on this farm. The cheese factory is still located in the old farmhouse. They are adapted to the current guidelines regarding hygiene and food safety. Meanwhile, a free-stall barn and a milking parlor have been built, matching the old farm. A modern dairy farm wrapped in a monumental jacket.

Cows

Harry takes care of their 80 dairy cows. These cows are housed in a beautiful cubicle barn. A milking parlor has been built behind the monumental farmhouse.

Making cheese

Margriet makes cheese 4 times a week. The cheese she makes is farm cheese. In other words, the milk is heated to 60 degrees to get the bacteria out, but some of it stays alive. This makes the cheese extra creamy. The process of heating and making cheese takes about 3 hours. At Kaasboerderij van Schie, they make 1-pound cheeses and 17-pound cheeses with and without herbs.

Rest point

A rest point has been set up at the farm, where several bicycle routes lead you past. Here you can enjoy a nice cup of coffee or another snack. This resting point offers a view of the farm and its surroundings! So you can completely relax.
