Less fat, more protein in these cheeses

Erfgoed Stelling 302 & 304 – Traditional flavour with a modern twist. We’re proud to shine a spotlight on two of our exceptional cheeses: Erfgoed Stelling 302 and Erfgoed Stelling 304. These cheeses have been part of our assortment for a while, but did you know they’re not only delicious, but also contain 38% less fat and naturally 47% more protein?

More protein, less fat

In a time when more and more people are consciously choosing what’s on their plate, Erfgoed Stelling 302 and Erfgoed Stelling 304 fit perfectly into a balanced diet. They contain more protein and less fat than many traditional cheeses – without compromising on taste or character.

These cheeses are made using a traditional artisanal recipe, carefully aged on wooden boards. But farmer Van Erk has managed to craft them in such a way that they contain less fat (30+) and are naturally higher in protein than other cheeses. Ideal for anyone who wants to eat healthier without giving up truly delicious cheese.

How does it work exactly?

Because this cheese contains less fat, a greater proportion of it is made up of other components like water and protein. Since protein is an essential part of cheese, the protein content remains relatively constant while the fat content is reduced. This results in a more favourable protein-to-fat ratio, meaning you get more protein per 100 grams of cheese. So the protein content per 100 grams is actually higher than in full-fat cheese.

The facts at a glance:

  • 38% less fat
  • 47% more protein

Compared to full-fat (farmstead) cheese.

Farmstead cheeses with class

  • Erfgoed Stelling 302 has a mild, creamy flavour and a soft texture – perfect on bread, for a light lunch, or as a snack.
  • Erfgoed Stelling 304 is slightly spicier, with a fuller flavour that true cheese lovers will certainly appreciate – delicious on a cheese board or in hot dishes.

These two farmstead cheeses are produced by the Van Erk family from Berkenwoude. The cheeses are made with thermised milk (farmhouse cheese). This means the milk is briefly heated, which removes some of the bacteria, but leaves others alive – resulting in a cheese with more flavour. In addition to farmhouse cheese, there is also farmer’s cheese (made with raw cow’s milk) and pasteurised cheese.

These two cheeses are part of the Erfgoed Stelling range. This product line features high-quality farmer’s and farmhouse cheeses from various farms throughout the Netherlands. The first digit of the number indicates the farmer, the last digit the age of the cheese. So for Erfgoed Stelling 302, it’s: 3 (Farmer Van Erk), 02 (Young Matured).
