Surprising cheese combinations

Cheese is much more versatile than you’d think. We’re all familiar with cheese sandwiches or a cheese board with some olives or grapes, but cheese is so much more versatile. You’ll be surprised by the many other delicious combinations with cheese, so why not give them a try? You can read all about it in this blog.

Cheese with chocolate

One of the latest trends is the combination of cheese and chocolate. We first discovered it at a trade fair in Houten where it was offered to us as a snack and left us completely bowled over! The sweet and bitter taste of chocolate combined with the savoury and salty character of cheese makes so much sense. Try some pieces of extra matured farmstead cheese with some sprinkles of dark or white chocolate. We even had it in a biscuit cone. Or you can make brownies with walnut and blue cheese. Another great combination is our cheese with black truffle and dark chocolate!

Cheese and pear

The more punchy cheeses go really well with something sweet. Try the combination with our spicy cheese with chilli flakes and pear. Another great combination is a salad with blue cheese, rocket, and pear. Another more well-known hot dessert is baked goat cheese with pear – really worth a try.

The V of Vegetables

The combination of cheese and vegetables is already a classic that never goes out of fashion. Hot cauliflower or broccoli with a tasty cheese sauce or grated cheese, Brussels sprouts with a cheese gratin, or an oven dish with Belgian endive, ham and cheese. All delectable combinations. But what about roasted, sweet carrots with goat cheese? Sweet combined with bitter is a surprising combination of tastes.

Tea time

Did you know that tea matches wonderfully with cheese? When you take a sip of your tea and then put a piece of cheese into your mouth, it is as if the cheese plunges into a hot bath. This creates a real taste explosion. However, you need to choose the right combination. Black tea matches perfectly with hard cheeses while Oolong tea (a Chinese tea with a taste in between green and black tea) combines really well with nutty cheeses. Or you can try the blue cheeses with a smoked tea blend. Yummy!

Wine and cheese

The combination of wine and cheese is a classic as well. Besides the fact that the flavours match so beautifully, the combination also strengthens the properties of the products. Alcohol goes really well with the saltiness and fattiness of cheese. Studies have also shown that wine actually tastes better when combined with cheese! At the same time, you need to choose the best combinations. For example, the typical taste of matured cheese goes best with a headier, red wine. If you like a milder cheese, it is best to drink a crisp white wine to maintain the balance in tastes. Blue cheeses are great with port wine and if you fancy a glass of rosé, we recommend a delicious herbed cheese, such as the Villa Nella or Villa Jardin with garden herbs.
